Shoulder
Joint Replacement
Arthritis of the shoulder can be an extremely painful and disabling condition for the patient. In the early stages of the condition surgeons will use conservative treatment to relieve the pain, but ultimately the need for a prosthetic replacement is likely.
The team at NorthStar began their successful partnership with Tornier following the UK launch of the Aequalis Classic in 1996. The Aequalis Classic is an outstanding shoulder replacement designed by two highly respected surgeons, Professor Pascal Boileau and Dr. Giles Walch. Then first third generation shoulder prosthesis with published 10 year results, the Aequalis Classic is now one of the most widely used replacements in the UK.
In 2003, Tornier and NorthStar launched the Aequalis Reversed into the UK. As the name suggests, this is a reverse geometry shoulder with the ball on the glenoid and the cup on the humerus. Indicated for severe trauma or patients with a deficient rotator cuff, the Aequalis Reversed is a more constrained shoulder replacement suitable for patients that require greater stability.
The Tornier shoulder range is completed by the Aequalis Fracture Stem, which you can see in the Trauma section, and the Aequalis Resurfacing, which you can see in the Resurfacing section of our shoulder product range.
