Unlike traditional shoulder ranges which incorporate several dedicated designs, the Arrow is completely modular enabling every type of stemmed replacement to be carried out using one set of implants and one instrument set.  With a common technique applied to many stages of the procedure, the surgical team quickly gain familiarity with the operative steps and hospitals are able to benefit financially as in most cases Northstar consign the complete system on a permanent basis.

From the patients perspective, a modular implant acts as an insurance policy against compromise should revision surgery be necessary.   Instead of having to extract the previous prosthesis if revision is required, the Arrow stem can be left in place while the head and cup are exchanged.  This insurance enables the surgeon and patient to manage the existing condition in the most effective way without having to compromise against possible complications in the future.
