Bone Graft Programme

NorthStar Orthopaedics and our sister company Forth Medical have a long pedigree in supplying UK hospitals with products for bone grafting. Bone grafts are used extensively in spinal surgery, trauma and hip revisions, all of which are indications where the amount and quality of bone stock needs to be increased.

The traditional source of graft material has been to harvest the patients own bone (known as autograft). Autograft is considered the gold standard in terms of bio-compatibility, however it does create issues with pain and morbidity at the donor site. At times it is also difficult to get sufficient quantity, and for these reasons there has been a definite move towards using commercially available graft materials.

NorthStar have partnered with three manufacturers of bone graft so that we can supply the mix of products that are needed in today’s surgical environment. These range from allograft to synthetic void fillers and bio-active de-mineralised bone matrix (DBM).
