Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is the process by which localised cooling is applied to an affected area in order to remove body heat. This has the effect of decreasing cellular metabolism, reducing both swelling and pain. Frequently used by physiotherapists following sports injury or joint arthroplasty, NorthStar supply the IceBand range of cryo-therepy bandages.

Designed to be affordable enough for hospitals to give a bandage to each patient for use at home, the IceBand range is available for the shoulder, knee and hindfoot. Placing the cooling elements into a freezer, the patient or physiotherapist has no need for an ice machine or the suspension of a chilled water container. Being single patient only, IceBand prevents any possibility of contamination and disease transmission, and it does not require time intensive hand cleaning.
