PIP and MCP Replacement

To strengthen our product range in the upper limb, NorthStar began working with a company called Avanta Orthopaedics in 1999. Avanta specialised in designing implants for the hand, wrist and elbow. In May 2004, Avanta were purchased by Small Bone Innovations, and since then a steady stream of investment has resulted in the development of some outstanding small joint implants.

Arthritis of finger joints is common in patients suffering from Rhumatoid Arthritis and following traumatic injury to the hand. Designed by surgeons from the world renowned Mayo Clinic, the SR MCP and SR PIP are well established joint replacements that return a good range of motion or the patient and enable effective pain relief.

For patients requiring a more constrained implant, NorthStar supply the SBi Silicone MCP and PIP and the Ariadna and DGT prosthesis. Hands and fingers are some of the most frequently used joints, so implants such as these provide a great improvement to the quality of life of patients suffering from arthritis of these joints.
